History
Brisbane Avenue is located within Brisbane Central Business District – Australia’s largest and most cosmopolitan urban center.
Brisbane CBD was initially established during the convict period (1825-39) without consideration given to long-term development or how the settlement would expand. Surveyor Dixon conducted an official survey of Brisbane in March 1840, using 20-metre wide streets laid out on a grid pattern he called out after British monarchs (either queens or kings depending on your location) who then named streets north or south of the river after queens or kings respectively.
Brisbane Avenue was home to one of Brisbane’s most impressive mercantile and office buildings: the Brisbane Building.
