History

Brisbane Avenue is located within Brisbane Central Business District – Australia’s largest and most cosmopolitan urban center.

Brisbane CBD was initially established during the convict period (1825-39) without consideration given to long-term development or how the settlement would expand. Surveyor Dixon conducted an official survey of Brisbane in March 1840, using 20-metre wide streets laid out on a grid pattern he called out after British monarchs (either queens or kings depending on your location) who then named streets north or south of the river after queens or kings respectively.

Brisbane Avenue was home to one of Brisbane’s most impressive mercantile and office buildings: the Brisbane Building. Designed for a single retail establishment on its ground-floor retail space and offices on floors three through seven, the Brisbane Building eventually joined with surrounding suburbs such as Hamilton, Ithaca Sandgate Windsor Wynnum into becoming part of the City of Brisbane in 1924.

Traffic

Brisbane commuters face some of the worst traffic congestion in Australia. According to one survey, commuters spent on average 4.5 hours each week getting to their jobs; some even considered quitting due to it – an especially true statement during rush hours when traffic snarls are common on major roads.

Traffic in Melbourne is among the worst of any Australian city, with drivers often experiencing delays of up to 45 minutes due to a combination of factors including high vehicle demand and limited public transport options.

As always, there are ways to shorten your travel time. Deliberately leaving earlier and scheduling meetings during peak hour are excellent strategies to avoid congestion. TomTom GPS also features a traffic option which takes into account road traffic conditions when planning a journey – pictograms on your map display this impact so that you can easily make adjustments based on pictograms displayed. You can deactivate this feature at any time!

Parking

Brisbane Avenue makes getting around easy, offering plenty of parking options nearby. On-street parking is managed by the Brisbane Central Traffic Area while there are various Council car parks in the city centre that also regulate it.

King St Parking at the Brisbane Showgrounds (entry via Machinery or Alexandria Streets) offers the latest innovation for parking services – this undercover facility with five levels offers 380 spaces on five levels including eight disability bays – no tickets are necessary, just park and leave.

Brisbane Road offers numerous budget-friendly private driveways offering budget parking solutions. JustPark provides full transparency with pricing so that you know exactly what the charges will be before reserving a space – no hidden charges or surprises! Plus you can add CCTV, EV charging or enhanced accessibility features into your reservation process!
